The Blog Experience

I had much more fun putting together a research blog to reflect my findings over writing a long, drawn out paper. This was my first time using a blogging web site (I’ve never been compelled to have a personal blog). I had an easy time picking it up and getting it to reflect my desired layout.

The research part of this assignment was the most time consuming for me. I have a hard time using a resource without reading the majority of it. Not only that, but I found lots of interesting things related to my topic that would distract me and force me to read more as I sifted through resources. Because of my topic choice, I ended up watching several TV and movie adaptations of “The Great Gatsby” and settling on the 1974 and 2013 versions for comparison to the novel. I also read through the novel again to refresh my memory. I remember having read it in 10th grade and enjoying it then too.

Finding resources was the easy part for me with all of the criticism and reference material available on Gale and Ebsco. Forcing myself to stop reading them (and watching the movies) multiple times and actually start writing something was the hard part. At this point, I think it is safe to say that I could be certified as a Jr. research expert on the topic of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s life. Throughout the creation of this blog, I unintentionally learned many interesting details that connected his life to his novels and short stories.
